Malayalam actress Amala Paul was recently not allowed to enter the Thiruvairanikulam Mahadeva temple in Kerala due to the religion she follows.
The temple, located in Kerala’s Ernakulam, reportedly allows only Hindus inside the temple premises. Amala, who is a Christian by religion, was thus denied entry, leaving the actress upset.
Amala mentioned that she eventually had to get a glimpse of the Lord from the road in front of the temple.
Amala Paul denied entry in temple
According to a report in India Today, Amala visited the temple on Monday but she was refused darshan of the deity by the temple authorities. The actress claimed that they stated only Hindus were allowed inside the temple.
She then shared her experience in the temple’s visitor’s register wherein she stated that it was sad to know discrimination still existed in the country.
“It is sad and disappointing that religious discrimination still exists in 2023. I couldn’t go near the Goddess but could feel the spirit from a distance. I hope there will be a change in religious discrimination soon. The time will come and we all will be treated equally and not on the basis of religion,” Amala Paul wrote in the temple visitor’s register.
Temple authorities react
Soon after the news went viral, the trust secretary of the Thiruvairanikulam Mahadeva temple said that devotees of other religions have paid a visit to the deity earlier too.
“However, when a celebrity comes, it becomes controversial,” he said.
The temple authorities added that they were only following the protocols that have been existing for a long time now.
Amala Paul’s upcoming projects
On the work front, Amala is all set to star in Ajay Devgn’s upcoming film ‘Bholaa’. While her role has been kept under wraps, sources tell us that she is playing a Banarasi woman in the film.
