Dibyendu Bhattacharya is known for his roles in Dev D and Criminal Justice. He will be next seen in Jamtara Sabka Number Ayega season 2, which will be released on Netflix. In an exclusive interaction with The Free Press Journal, the actor opens up about the series, upcoming projects, and more.
Opening up about his current career phase, he says, “Precisely, I would like to call it a phase wherein I have got to work the most. Allotting dates has now become puzzling. By the grace of God, this is happening for the first time. I feel blessed about the fact that I am sharing screen space with such talented actors. I am thankful to the Almighty and my parents for their blessings.”
When quizzed about how he got the role in Maharani, he reveals, “I was shooting for another film when Naren Kumar, the producer of the series, called and enquired about my schedule. He conveyed that he wanted me to be a part of Maharani 2. I had previously worked with Naren and Subhash Kapoor in Guddu Rangeela, so I was looking forward to working with them. I was happy, but at the same time I was anxious about being a part of this successful show. It was challenging to get into a show in its sequel. My character has prominence in the last two episodes. Therefore, to shoulder this responsibility of taking forward a new character in a pre-set show, the anxiety levels were definitely high. I am happy the audience is appreciating the character.”

Talking about his interest to turn toward direction, he shares, “I am inclined towards direction. I am determined to explore more, to work on my craft prior to direction. There’s no fixed timeline that I have aligned myself with for direction. I have a few scripts in my mind. You need an entire team and a proper infrastructure. Hopefully, it will happen in two or three years.”
Sharing about his role in Jamtara season 2, he mentions, “Well, it is the director’s vision entirely. I play a small part in Jamtara. It’s by the grace of God that the audience has appreciated my character. It is an entirely different ballgame. The director, producers, and writers are the ones that have created Jamtara. It is for the audience to tell how different season one is from season two. I ensure that the director’s vision is encapsulated in an effective manner.”
On a parting note, he talks about his future projects. “I can’t reveal much about the same. There’s Jamtara Sabka Number Ayega season 2, Rocket Boys season 2, Khuda Haafiz Chapter 2 Agni Pariksha has been released on OTT, and Aar Ya Paar will be released on a digital platform. There’s a lot more happening. Let’s wait for the right time to reveal more,” he signs off.
