Around 800 Congress members have been detained since Monday for holding protests against summons issued to party MP Rahul Gandhi in a money laundering case related to the National Herald case, reported PTI, citing the police.
Gandhi has been questioned by the central agency for three straight days since Monday. He has faced over 30 hours of questioning over the last three days at the Enforcement Directorate office in Delhi. He has been asked to join the investigation again on Friday.
Several Congress leaders, including KC Venugopal, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and Randeep Singh Surjewala, have been detained during the protests. The party has alleged that many of its leaders sustained injuries as the police manhandled them.
On Wednesday, Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Sagar Preet Hooda said that the Congress members have been told that they do not have permission to protest.
“Despite that they staged protests,” he said. “We have made adequate security arrangements.”
The police had detained 459 Congress members on Monday and 217 on Tuesday.
